On Sunday 15th April in gloriously sunny weather we took ourselves off to Cropston reservoir where the RSPB were holding a family fun day.
We drove into the Severn Trent treatment site (normally closed to the public) and started to explore.
The buildings are quite impressive.
The inside of the buildings is quite impressive too with 'robot's
and a tiled archway.
To see this view from the top of the tower you have to climb 160 steps.
On the water were great crested grebe, tufted duck and cormorant.
We were taken on a short guided walk by an RSPB volunteer and we saw
a domestic duck nesting 20 feet up in a tree
goldcrest,
nuthatch,
treecreeper,
grey heron,
robin,
blue tit,
blackbird
and we heard (but didn't see) greater spotted woodpecker and blackcap.
Lunchtime came very quickly and we had a very nice meal at the Badger's Sett.
The whole idyllic day was spoilt when Jacqui got a mobile phone call to say that our house had just been burgled.

Hi Dad
I sent you some Wingspan journals that I thought may interest you. I got them when I went to watch a rehabilitation training flight for NZ falcons. I wish I knew it was there (Rotorua) when you visited. I think you would have loved it!
