Bletchley Park

The Computer Science department organised a day trip to Bletchley Park the home of the wartime codebreakers. This secret place was nearly lost forever and demolished to build a housing estate.
But thanks to some enthusiasts half of the property has been saved and it is gradually being 'restored' as a visitor attraction. So you know where to go to find out about the German coding machines (Enigma, Lorenz) and the British people (Turing, Flowers) and the machines that made (Bombe, Colossus) to crack the codes.

That's very cool in a geeky way! :o) I'm glad people do care enough to keep these things around for future generations though. I went to the Air Force Museum in Christchurch a while back and while the planes etc didn't exite me that much I loved reading the individual 'hero' stories.
